Breaking Benjamin & Starset – Tag’s Summerstage

Breaking Benjamin kicked off their latest leg of their “Dark Before Dawn” tour with a boom last Tuesday night in Big Flats, NY. as a massive thunderstorm blew in just before the gates were to open. While there is no doubt that there was alot of electricity in the air, it was nothing to compare to the crowd’s anticipation and spirits, waiting for the show to begin!

It was Columbus’s own, Starset that “warmed up” the crowd. As vocalist Dustin Bates would ask the crowd how many people have never seen Starset live before, a sea of hands went up. And whether or not the crowd really know who they were, by the end of the set, the crowd was won over and going nuts- proving that they were there to rock!

While based around the message of The Starset Society (a book about the starset society will be coming out later this year), Starset packs a punch with great emotions! With their unique Space Cinematic Rock style, Starset is both visually and musically fun to watch live. They have covered great distance in a short time since their debut album, “Transmissions” was release just over a year ago. You may know them by their debut single, “My Demons” or maybe “Telescope” or their current single, “Halo.” One thing is certain, they are spreading their word like wildfire! Next up was headliners, Breaking Benjamin. With a new line-up, founder and vocalist Benjamin Burnley has teamed up with an amazing group of musicians to re-invent Breaking Benjamin. While Benjamin is still on vocals, new members are former RED guitarist – Jasen Rauch, former ADELITAS WAY guitarist – Keith Wallen, bassist Aaron Bruch and PICTURE ME BROKEN’s drummer Shaun Foist.

Replacing pretty much the entire band, is not an easy thing to do, and die hard fans have a tough time swallowing such changes. But let me re-assure you, Breaking Benjamin is back! They are packing some seriously intense rock grooves and proving to be a solid “new incarnation” of the band that fans will take notice and will fall in love with all over again!

Breaking Benjamin are on the road this summer, out in support of their fifth studio album “Dark Before the Dawn” – It’s their first album in six years, featuring the newest members.

Overall – it was really a great rock show. Don’t fret if you missed them in Big Flats – New Yorker’s, you have one more chance this month as they will be playing in Hamburg, NY on July 24, 2015 (Starset opening) and in Syracuse NY on July 25, 2015 (part of the KRockathon). Taking a short break, Breaking Benjamin will take a few weeks off and then return to the road with Young Guns opening.
