KROCKATHON 20

This year marks the 20th year anniversary of Central NY’s largest radio show – KROCKATHON!

Over the years, WKLL KRock has brought some of the hottest up and coming modern rock artist to the stage as well as those popular favorites that you love, for one day of rock. KROCKATHON past artist include Stone Temple Pilots, Korn, Butthole Surfers, Goo Goo Dolls, Orgy, The Violent Femmes, Drowning Pool, Staind, Papa Roach, Boy Hits Car, P.O.D, Filter, Puddle of Mudd, Evanescence, Black Label Society,Buckcherry, Seether, Chris Cornell, Deftones, Social Distortion, Sick Puppies, Three Days Grace, Limp Bizkit, Avenged Sevenfold, All That Remains, Chevelle, Bush, Skillet and Halestorm to name a few. And this years line-up once again proved ROCK is ALIVE AND WELL!!!

First up was Revolve. They remind me of a cross between the more radio friendly side of Sevendust and Shinedown. They have some catchy guitar riffs that are on the harder side of rock. You can hear them here:

Second up was Bad Seed Rising. Currently on tour with Adelitas Way – this young band from Maryland has alot to offer. They are out in support of their debut album, “A Place Called Home” via Roadrunner Records. Here is a taste of their first single, “Bad Seed Rising”

Third on the bill was Fit For Rivals. We caught these guys earlier this year with the Sno-Core tour. This young band from Jacksonville, FL is sure to go far. Vocalist, Renee Phoenix reminds me of a young Joan Jett – with a bad attitude that you can’t help but love!! Fit for Rival will be playing select Festivals and shows with I Prevail. They just released their latest EP, “SUGAR” on July 17th via Big 3 records. Here’s a taste of what you missed if you didn’t get there early to Krockathon:

Fourth to take the stage was Sons of Texas. These southern boys carry a catchy rock vibe that remind me of the likes of Seether, Creed and Nickleback. They are currently out on tour with Trapt, out in support of their debut album “Baptized In The Rio Grande”

Fifth on the bill : Sharman’s Harvest. Missouri natives show us New Yorkers about rock in the Midwest. They have a very familiar modern rock sound. It’s like a softer version of Godsmack, or a heavier version of Hinder. They are out in support of their latest album, “Smokin’ Hearts & Broken Guns”

Sixth on the list – One of MPJ Spotlight Artist – NOTHING MORE! These guys have really come along way since we were first introduced to them a little over a year ago. Their fans keep growing and it was great to watch them captivate the KRockathon audience! They are currently out on tour with Shinedown for a few more dates, then will be headlining the Monster Energy Music Outbreak Tour with Marmozets, Turbowolf & Separations as support. They will be back to NY on Aug 8 at Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park. Be sure to pick up their latest self-titled album.

Next – We Are Harlot took the stage. This Hard Rock supergroup is fronted by Danny Worsnop (formerly of Asking Alexandria), Jeff George (formerly Sebastian Bach) on guitar, bassist Brian Weaver (Silvertide) and drummer Bruno Agra (formerly of Revolution Renaissance). While they have only been a group for a short period of time, their self titled debut album, is turning heads and making headway! They will continue to tour across North America, returning to Syracuse on Sept 22, for their show with Sevendust at the Westcott Theatre.

Up next was Adelitas Way. The bad boys of Vegas Rock return to central NY. These guys are on a mission – to prove that ROCK IS NOT DEAD!!! And the crowd in Syracuse backed them up 100%! Adelitas Way is definitely a band that has worked hard for everything they have gotten, and loyal fans come out in drones! Recently releasing “Deserve This”(EP) from a fan funded Pledge Music campaign, out now!

.

Then, Trapt was up. These guys came out and owned the stage. While there has been alot of twitter remarks/comments supporting what these guys have to say about ROCK music – and the lack of representation in certain music awards – Trapt nor any of the bands on this KRock stage need a statue to prove how much energy goes into a true rock performance! They had the crowd jumping, fist in the air, singing along – what more could you ask for? Trapt will be releasing a new album, “DNA” later this year which includes their new single “Passenger!”

In This Moment was next to explode on the stage. It’s been a few years since we have caught then – I have to say they have really kicked up their live performances! Maria Brinks reminds me of a modern day, “Metal Barbie” version of Alice Cooper. They have the horror aspect – they have the theatrics. They have the entertainment of dancers to help tell the songs stories as they perform. All while doing it in their own style and fashion. In This Moment will continue on a North American tour. In Oct, they join Five Finger Death Punch and Papa Roach for a tour that you won’t want to miss. It head our way on Oct 9th at the Glens Falls Civic Center in Glens Falls NY.

While the night was starting to wind down, the bands were still hot as ever! Next up was Breaking Benjamin. With a new line-up – founder and vocalist Benjamin Burnley has teamed up with an amazing group of musicians to re-invent Breaking Benjamin. While Benjamin is still on vocals, new members are former RED guitarist – Jasen Rauch, former ADELITAS WAY guitarist – Keith Wallen, bassist Aaron Bruch and PICTURE ME BROKEN’s drummer Shaun Foist. They guys ooze what radio rock is all about! And the crowd couldn’t be more excited to hear them play their favorite songs! Breaking Benjamin will continue to tour across the US, returning to NY on Sept 11 at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie NY.

There was a quick rain shower to cool things off just before Headliner – Shinedown took the stage. The crowd was damp and it was starting to get cold, but the spirits of those KRockers could not be broken! Shinedown’s newest single, “”Cut The Cord” gives fans a taste of what their upcoming new album songs like. Watch as the details of their latest album unfold.

Overall KROCKATHON 20 was once again a success! Where real Rock Lives!
