FILTER & MENEW – Oneonta, NY

“Hey Man, Nice Shot!” for the Oneonta Theater as they pulled in one killer tour of Filter and Menew to Oneonta NY!  With the unique voice of Richard Patrick, I was ready to “Take A Picture” when Filter took the stage! All song references aside – Filter is so much more than those hits on the radio. They really put on a show that will have you on your feet, dancing and your fist in the air! Yes, they played those great radio hits that we love, but they also played a nice blend of new and older songs, showcasing a little heavier rockin side of the band. Back in April of 2012, Filter entered the studio with producer Bob Marlette to work on their sixth studio album, titled “Gurney and the Burning Books,” due for release in mid-2012. Meanwhile, be sure to catch them out on the road this summer: Tour Dates listed below. And if being a Filter Roadie for a day sounds just up your alley, check out the special VIP/Roadie packages for this tour on the Filter website.

Preceding Filter was The Canadian band, Menew. With the bassist, Jesse ‘Wilfur’ Filice’s 1950’s style big hair and vocalist, SHADE’s hat, I was imagining Al Capone sitting in the front row and his 1928 Cadilac outside. My first impression when they took the stage wasn’t really that far off as the Menew fanclub is called “The Mobsters.” In the vein of Coldplay or Muse mixed in with even a little David Bowie, it was easy for the crowd to fall in love with this band from the start. They have honed in on their skills and they do it well. The band consists of 3 brothers: “SHADE” lead vocals, “KEY” (keyboards, Piano, Synthesizers) and Nathan Samuel Philip (Drums) (while Jesse on bass as a touring member) which might be why this band’s chemistry is so tight. With a stage set with full on strobes and light show, the crowd was on their feet, ready to dance. They have a solid British influenced rock sound, with even mixed in a few power ballads that the crowd found in awe. Menew released their first official full-length album, “Wide Awake Hello” back in February 2012. Be on the lookout for more from these Toronto natives.

Warming up the crowd was the local bands, Nasty Midnight and Autumn Fire. Watch for Nasty Midnight to be opening up for the super group, Kill Devil Hill featuring former Pantera/Down bassist, Rex Brown, former Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell, Dio drummer Vinny Appice, former W.A.S.P. guitarist Mark Zavon and on vocals, former Pissing Razors’s Jason Bragg at the Boogie on August 29th in Albany NY.
