KRockathon 16 – STP, Bush, Seether, Dropkick Murphy’s and more…

People from all over the North Eastern United Stated converged at the New York State Fairgrounds last Saturday to be part of the largest modern rock festival in central NY, the 2011 KRockathon 16. It’s become one of the largest rock n roll parties that modern rock fans look forward to year after year. If your only able to do one show per year, this is the show you will pick.

Since the very first Krockathon in 1996, WKLL has brought some of the largest bands of Modern Rock to Central New York. Over the past 15years, some of the bands that shared the KRockathon stage have been the Butthole Surfers, Goo Goo Dolls, Our Lady Peace, Third Eye Blind, Smash Mouth, Orgy, the Violent Femmes, Staind, Papa Roach, Crazy Town, Boy Hits Car, Finger Eleven, P.O.D, Puddle of Mudd, Filter, Sevendust, Buckcherry, Chris Cornell, Deftones, Social Distortion, Three Days Grace, Shinedown, Chevelle, Limp Bizkit and even Avenged Sevenfold.

This year’s line up was no different. The 16th annual KRockathon featured Stone Temple Pilots, Seether, Bush, The Dropkick Murphys, Hollywood Undead, Sick Puppies, Airborne Toxic Event, My Darkest Days, Bayside, Rose Hill Drive, Jetstream, Silent Fury (Local Band) and Click Clack Boom.

The parking lot filled up within the first hour or so that it’s gates were open. The line formed quickly for those who wanted to get inside and claim their spot up front of the stages, while others pulled out their beer pong tables, grills, coolers and other tailgating supplies and enjoyed the parking lot party.

The festival draws in over 20,000 people each year and while I didn’t receive the actual number through the gate, I think it would be safe to say that this year was easily over that 20,000 mark. Making this year’s KROCKATHON once again, the largest modern rock festival of central NY.
