10 Years, He is Legend, Spoken and One Step From Falling – Syracuse NY

When 10 Years, He is Legend, Spoken and One Step From Falling pulled into the Syracuse NY nightclub, the crowd at the Lost Horizon was ready to Rock!

First up was Syracuse’s own, One Step From Falling. Live, they have a grunge feel. They were on the stage when we got there; I felt like I had stepped into a Seattle Nightclub in the middle of Cameron Crowe’s movie “Singles.” They have branded their music as “Heady Metal” not to be confused with plain Heavy Metal – but rather a new “no cookie-cutter” style of metal here. When investigating further into this band, they have a unique blend of early 1990’s scene. Think Screaming Trees meets Korn in 1992 and throw in a little Tool and you get One Step From Falling!

You can check out their latest album, “The Wayside” via their e-store. They will be playing several festival dates around NY, PA, MA and NJ, so keep your eyes peeled for One Step From Falling! You will be glad you did.

Next up was Nashville, TN’s very own – SPOKEN. These guys came out hitting hard with more of a hardcore feel. Vocalist, Matt Baird explained how the band has two sides… a “lighter” side with more clean vocals and the “heavier” side.

I preferred the heavier side of this band. When they played those harder songs, it was a no holds barred. They let loose and did not hold back for the weak!

They are currently out in support of their latest album, “Breathe Again” via Artery Recordings. Spoken will be touring selective dates across North America until November.

Third on the stage was He is Legend. Hailing from Wilmington, NC, He is Legend bring a different breed of Rock n Roll to the stage. They have this hellbilly Rock style that takes you on an adventure. At times, it felt like they have a hippie/groove background as you watch vocalist Schuylar Croom with his dance moves. Yet their music was definitely more on the rock side with classic pagan imagery to boot.

Watch out for the band will playing with Jesse Smith & The Holy Ghost this summer as they continue to tour in support of their latest album, “Heavy Fruit”.

Headlining the night was Knoxville, TN’s very own – 10 Years.

10 Years are one of those bands that seem to fly just under the radar of mainstream, occasionally crossing over. You may know them from their radio songs “Wasteland,” “Fix Me” or “Beautiful” – but 10 Years has so much more to offer with discography that spans over a decade of music.

Live, this time around, the band went with a more atmospheric stage presents. There were strong lights that illuminated their signature humming bird symbol on the back sides of the stage, and one strong light box in the middle where mainly vocalist Jesse Hasek would step into. The other members were softly light or barely lit at all. Up close, fans could still have that band/crowd interaction, but further back in the venue, it really was more about listening to the music than being able to see the performance. You would see flashes and glimpse of the band on stage, which gave the over all feeling a trippy vibe and an appreciation of the music.

!0 Years is out in support of their latest album, “From Birth to Burial.” They will be on the road this August with Finger Eleven – making a stop at The Chance in Poughkeepsie NY on Aug 19th.
