Frontman of the multi-platnum band, Godsmack and solo artist, Sully Erna performed an intimate evening at the Turning Stone Casino in Vernon NY last month. This was my first time seeing Sully’s solo tour and really wasn’t too sure what I would be in for. I do enjoy seeing the solo artist when they come to town, as they usually breakdown the songs you know and love in their acoustic forms, while giving you a little background and personal touch to the songs. While Sully did some of that, he also covered other songs that have made an impact on his life, including Alice in Chains’ song, “Nutshell,” which he played in honor and memory of all those musicians that have fallen over the years.

Sully also played many songs off his solo album, “Avalon.” He even had a full band join him on stage to perform the solo work. It was refreshing and fun to see Sully perform in a more intimate and laid back atmosphere.  Sully Erna will continue to do solo shows across the USA periodically in May and the early part of June. Godsmack has single show in May and June, before what appears to be a North American tour in July and August. If you get the chance, Godsmack fans should definitely check out both shows.
