Jackyl – Syracuse NY

The Last Day of the New York State Fair went out with a PUH-POW when Jackyl performed a free show at Chevrolet Court. People swarmed in to watch these southern boys rip up the stage; and that is exactly what they did. Jackyl played all their favorites along with new songs off their latest album “My Moonshine Kicks Your Cocaine’s Ass.”

Halfway through the set, Darryl “D.M.C.” Matthews McDaniels of Run DMC joined them on stage to perform “Just Like A Negro.” DMC contacted Jesse early spring about the song and wanted to get involved. They went back into the studio to re-record the song. When they finished playing “Just Like A Negro,” Jesse asked if anyone wanted to do it “old school.” The crowd cheered and they went on to play the Run DMC song, “It’s Tricky” and “Walk This Way”. It all seemed very fitting because the Fair kicked off opening day with Aerosmith playing at the Grandstand, where I am sure they played their original version of the song.

For an encore, Jesse invited DMC to return to the stage during the “Lumberjack” song, where both Jesse and DMC cut up stools on stage with the Jackyl trademark chainsaw. Jackyl started over 20 years ago, and they definitely are still rocking hard. Jackyl holds not one but two Guinness Book of World Records for performing the most shows in short amount of time. The first record was for 100 shows in 50 days, and then they did 21 shows in 24 hours. You can hear Jesse tell about about it, as well as the new album in an interview we did with Jesse this past spring.
