The Envy & KISS – Saratoga Springs, NY

REVIEW BY: ELLE TOURJMAN | PHOTOS BY: NADINE SWIGER
Storming the United States is a brilliantly talented band called The Envy. Currently on tour with KISS, they were recently discovered by Gene Simmons and promptly signed to his label. What a sweet move for Mr. Simmons! They have an fantasmic stage presence that I have seen in many other world famous bands and they sing to thousands as though they are singing to millions. While their good looks certainly don’t hurt, don’t let their pretty image fool you. Their music ranges from melancholy hooks and riffs to finely tuned magic as they put on a performance that is truly worthy of “The Hottest Show On Earth”!

We had the amazing opportunity to catch up with them at their show in Saratoga Springs, New York. I was mesmerized by their performance and high spirited energy as lead vocalist Shaun Franks called out to the crowd for their participation. During their song “Fingers Crossed”, he asked everyone in the audience to cross their fingers, not for luck but for hope and love and everything good that it stands for. Shaun is quite good at working the crowd and women love this band, if their euphoric screams are anything to go by. Don’t think its just for the ladies, boys! I heard some of you dudes shouting, too.
They played their first release, “Don’t Let Go” which is one of my favorites and it is a also available for free download via their website. (It’s already on my iPod) Other songs they played included “Fingers Crossed” which is a nod to their logo and everything meaningful that it stands for, “Unfaithful”, another of my favorites, “Never Wanna Lose This Feeling”, ” Wishing You Were Here”, “Skin On Skin” and several other songs. Ask me to pick my favorite one and I would be hard pressed to do so. They have a similar style to Muse and U2 and I can’t wait to see them hit European shores because I know their fan base will literally explode overnight.

This tour with KISS in the U.S. is building a devoted and steady following with each and every show, every heartfelt performance for them and it’s easy to see why. I am actually expecting them to be as big as Bono and U2 and given time they may even be bigger. They are superstars in the making and if this tour is a sign of things to come then I can’t wait to see what happens next!

KISS was beyond fantasmic and amazing as always! They had their classic moves with Simmons biting his tongue and spewing blood everywhere while flying threw the air and Paul Stanley going out in the middle of the audience to dance and sing to “I Was Made For Lovin’ You”. KISS definitely knows how to work the crowd and put on a killer performance that people still talk about weeks after they’ve gone. I particularly enjoyed the massive pyros myself. I guess I was a little too close to the stage and staring too hard at them, since it was pointed out to me afterward that some blood vessels in my eye had popped due to the decibel range in the arena. Now that’s the loudest, “Hottest Show On Earth!”
